CPCS A25 MEWP certification on our own machines — from novice to card in days
If you operate a scissor lift on a construction site, you need formal certification — and for most UK sites that means a CPCS card. Our scissor lift training covers safe operation of mobile elevated work platforms (MEWPs), pre-use inspections, platform controls and working at height, finishing with the CPCS A25 technical tests.
Training runs at our own centre at Endon, Stoke-on-Trent, on machines we own and maintain — the same machines you take your test on. Courses are limited to two candidates per machine, so you spend the day operating, not queueing.
CPCS A25 (Scissor Lift) covers vertical-lift mobile platforms — the standard scissor lift used for facades, ceilings and M&E work.
If you also use boom-type platforms (cherry pickers), you’ll want CPCS A26 (MEWP Boom) — many operators take both together for maximum site flexibility.
Experienced operators can complete training and testing in a single day. Complete beginners typically need 2–3 days including the CPCS theory and practical tests.
On most UK construction sites, yes — principal contractors typically require a CPCS card (or equivalent) as proof of competence for MEWP operation. The A25 category covers scissor lifts specifically.
You must pass the CITB Health, Safety & Environment (HS&E) test within two years before your CPCS technical tests. We can arrange the HS&E test for you at our centre.
Both are recognised MEWP qualifications. CPCS is the standard on most major-contractor construction sites, while IPAF is common in warehousing and facilities. If you work in construction, CPCS A25 is usually the card site managers ask for.
